Summary:
Once again, Israel
committed a massacre killing at least 40 unarmed civilians, 21 of whom
were children at dawn Sunday, in Qana, South Lebanon.Civil defense and security sources told KUNA that the Israeli air force fired about 50 missiles on a residential area known as Al-Kheraiba neighborhood in Qana village. |
|
The raid destroyed almost all of the houses in the neighborhood where most
of the residents have already fled to other areas.
The victims of the massacre, most of them children, women, and elderly, were taking shelter in a mosque near Al-Kheraiba. However, Israeli air strikes leveled the mosque to the ground. Mutilated bodies that were stuck under the rubble were left there until this morning where ambulances and civil defense vehicles were not able to reach the village due to continued Israeli raids and destruction of roads leading to the village. The civil defense forces have recovered more than 25 bodies so far and they are still working on recovering the rest. No survivors have been found so far which indicates that all those under the rubble are dead. This is the second massacre committed by Israel in Qana; the first was in 1996 when Israeli forces targeted an international forces center. Some 101 civilian, who had back then taken refuge in the center believing they would be safe in a UN building, were killed by an Israeli air strike. |
